Recently, I tackled a challenging project involving a significant ice dam in Hingham. The ice dam in the gutter was a whopping 6″ deep, with a 3″ buildup behind it! Ice dams like this can force meltwater under your shingles, which can then find its way into your home. To help this homeowner, I provided an effective ice dam removal service. I removed the remaining snow on the roof and created channels for the meltwater. To speed up the melting process, I used a handy trick – lengths of pantyhose filled with calcium chloride, which you can see in the picture. I was careful not to damage the brittle, cold shingles by breaking up all the ice. The more you pound on a frozen roof, the more you risk damaging your gutters and shingles.
